Katie and Kyle’s Washington, D.C. wedding was the perfect blend of mid-century modern style, jewel-tone elegance, and subtle art deco flair—all brought to life inside one of the city’s most striking venues, the International Spy Museum. Planned and designed by Cherry Blossom Wedding & Events, this celebration embraced bold color, geometric lines, layered textures, and playful interactive elements that honored the couple’s personalities, passions, and shared home.

Design Inspired by Their Life, Home & Story

Kyle is the owner and founder of FC Tulsa, a professional soccer club whose logo incorporates geometric art deco styling—a detail that heavily influenced the wedding aesthetic. At the same time, the couple had recently purchased a new home in Washington, D.C. and loved the rich teal tones throughout their décor.

Cherry Blossom Wedding & Events wove these inspirations together to create a wedding design that felt fresh, daring, and cohesive: Mid-Century Modern meets Art Deco, without slipping into Gatsby territory.

The palette centered around deep jewel tones, geometric shapes, and intricate patterns—resulting in a celebration with personality, vibrancy, and elevated artistic detail.

Bold Color, Pattern, and Texture

The reception featured three distinct table designs, each chosen to bring depth and visual interest to the room while maintaining a unified aesthetic. Details included:

  • Luxurious teal accents, the bride’s favorite color

  • Peacock feathers woven throughout the florals and tablescapes

  • Art deco–inspired elements drawn from the FC Tulsa logo

  • A one-of-a-kind stained-glass wedding cake, echoing both the Spy Museum's modern architecture and the historic windows of their church

Katie and Kyle were excited to embrace unexpected color combinations, metallic touches, and dimensional patterns—giving the entire design a rich, immersive feel.

A Ceremony Rooted in Faith

Before the festivities at the Spy Museum, Katie and Kyle celebrated a beautiful and full Catholic mass surrounded by family and friends. Their church held deep meaning for them, and they wanted their guests to experience its beauty and history.

Following the ceremony, the couple had the special privilege of taking portraits inside the U.S. Capitol, creating some of the most unforgettable images of their day.

Turning the Spy Museum Into an Immersive Guest Experience

Because the venue was the International Spy Museum, the couple wanted to lean into the theme in an elevated, clever way—not kitschy, but interactive and smart.

The wedding invitation contained a secret envelope, prompting guests to complete a small mission. After visiting a special website, guests had to search through photos to decode the message—perfectly on-theme for a Spy Museum wedding.

Those who solved the puzzle and entered the correct code on their RSVP were later rewarded. At the wedding, the escort wall displayed the secret code, and guests who successfully solved it received a door prize: customized matchbooks.

The Escort Wall: A Dream Brought to Life

One of the bride’s biggest wishes was an escort display featuring black-and-white photos of every guest. Cherry Blossom Wedding & Events elevated this vision by layering an iridescent, bubble-like overlay—shiny, dimensional, and colorful—giving each vignette a luminous glow against the museum’s modern backdrop.

This installation became a statement piece, perfectly balancing personalization, creativity, and visual impact.

A Dramatic Room Layout to Match the Vibrancy

The couple loved the idea of mixing table shapes to add architectural structure to the room. Working closely with the venue, the Cherry Blossom team designed a layout incorporating:

  • X-shaped tables

  • Round tables

  • Square tables

Every piece was strategically aligned so the square tables fell precisely between the arms of each X-table, leading the eye toward the dance floor. The result was dynamic, symmetrical, and completely unique—transforming the Spy Museum into a space full of dimension and artistry.

Cocktail Hour With a View

At sunset, guests gathered for cocktails overlooking the Washington, D.C. skyline, one of the museum’s most iconic features. An electric violinist roamed the space, creating a cinematic and modern atmosphere as the city lights began to glow.

A Celebration of Color, Art & Personality

From the stained-glass cake to the peacock feathers, from jewel-tone tablescapes to spy-themed guest interactions, Katie and Kyle’s wedding was the perfect reflection of who they are—vibrant, creative, faithful, and deeply connected to both their Oklahoma roots and their new life in D.C.

With thoughtful design and impeccable execution by Cherry Blossom Wedding & Events, the day felt like stepping into a world crafted just for them—where art deco geometry met modern style, and where color, texture, and storytelling reigned.
